5. Porsche 935
The 935 is a performance car in every sense of the word.
Introduced in 1976, the turbocharged flat-6 cylinder engine that made 750-horsepower was at the heart of this race car. By 1978, Porsche had designed a special version of the car, dubbed the 935/78, to race in the Le Mans series.
The unique shape of this version, with a long tail and spoiler on the back, earned it the nickname Moby Dick.
It’s also a model owned by many famous people, including the late Paul Newman.
4. Porsche 930
The 930 was released in 1975 and set the car world ablaze. It took the well-known 911 model and added a turbo engine, which made it the fastest vehicle available in Germany at the time.
The 911 had been released more than a decade earlier but Porsche pushed the envelope with the addition of a turbo.
The 930 was produced from 1975 with a 3.0-liter engine. By 1978, Porsche added a 3.3-liter engine that made between 260 and 330 horsepower.
Although the last 930 was released in 1989, the legacy of this car lives on today.
3. Porsche 917
The 917 is best known for being the Porsche that put the manufacturer on the map in the world of automobile manufacturing.
It gave Porsche its first win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with back-to-back wins in 1970 and 1971. This race car could achieve a top speed of 240 mph and sprint to 62 mph in just 2.3 seconds.
The 917 would go on to win races across the world and leave its mark as one of the most successful performance cars ever.
2. Porsche 356
The Porsche that started it all. When it was first sold in 1948, it set the tone for what would become an iconic brand in the automotive world.
Its bathtub-like shape with smooth curves and performance would become a staple in Porsche design up to today. The 356 came equipped with a 1.1-liter four-cylinder engine and a modest 35 to 40 horsepower, at least in today’s standards.
But at the time it was released as a convertible, it was a game-changer. Porsche soon expanded the model to the popular coupe model. To this day, the 356 is one of the most recognizable Porsche’s ever made.
1. Porsche 911
The 911 is arguably the most iconic Porsche of all-time.
Since its debut in 1963, there have been more than 820,000 built. For over five decades, Porsche has pushed the envelope in styling and performance with the 911.
When it was first released, it came equipped with a six-cylinder engine that produced 130-horsepower. But a maximum speed of 131-mph was just the start for this model.
Over the years, the 911 has won countless awards for build quality and performance.
In 2016, Porsche unveiled the 911 R, powered by a naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine that has a top speed of 200 mph and will take you from 0-60 in just 3.7 seconds!
